7.1 Slowness with W2k sp4

Heyas,

I was having an issue with 7.1 W2k sp3 where if I logged out and back in reports would hang. Tech support told me this was an sp3 thing, so I upgraded to sp4. Now the report generating is really slow. It now takes about 5 seconds for a graph to show up on the web. They're practically instantanious when viewing with the System Manager.

Anyone else seeing this behavior? The web/sql server is a duel PIII 1.2 with a GB of RAM.

I had the exact same problem. It is an issue with the com objects in 7.1. I had the exact same problem and I am testing 7.2 beta. The reports and graphs fly again. Look in your event log on the web server and see if you have just a slew of COM+ errors. You won't be able to miss them there are so many. The problem seems to have been corrected in 7.2 which is slated for release very soon. If you do have a ton of COM+ errors call support and they should be able to help you out.

Hey! I do have a bunch of COM errors. Interstingly enough, I installed the .NET framework last night for an unrelated reason and now it's speedy again, less COM errors. I'll give support a call though - Thanks man!

I have Solarwinds looking into the COM+ errors in my application log now. I'm already running 7.2. Guess it didn't fix the problem!

Interesting. I was getting exactly the same problem with 7.1 for the past 2 weeks. Our central server team applied the MS Hotfix against the pesky Sasser worm, and guess what, my COM+ errors have gone! Please apply this patch ASAP on your servers and let us know if you too have benefited. (You need to apply this patch anyway, it is classed as Critical by MS and therefore should be considered mandatory).

The Sasser patch was installed this weekend, but I'm still seeing the Com+ object errors
in the event viewer. I'll just have to wait for 7.2
