Convert NPM Windows hosts to SAM Windows hosts

Hi everyone -

We have had Solarwinds NPM (and NTA/NCM) for some time now.

We just purchased and installed/licensed 700 nodes of SAM.

All 250 of our NPM licenses are used, quite a few by Windows hosts that were initially created before the SAM installation.

I'd like to "recover" those available NPM licenses for use by network infrastructure such as Cisco/Meraki etc.

How do I go about the process of converting a currently monitored Windows server from using an NPM license

to using one of the SAM licenses, so that we can move forward with network device monitoring,

as well as get the additional capabilities that SAM has for the various Windows hosts we have.

I'd prefer not to lose all the history of uptime/health that we have on the existing NPM-based Windows servers if that's possible.

I have searched and cannot locate a Solarwinds document that speaks to _migrating_ devices between license types.

Plenty of notes on how to create nodes from fresh, but not much on migration.

Nodes are one big bucket and they are additive... In other words instead of being limited to 250 nodes you should now have 950.

You don't need to do anything to move or recover those node licenses as they are all part of one big pool.

NPM and SAM both have access to the new larger pool.
