not picking up SNMP

Hi All:

I have configured the SNMP service to a particular community name and trying add a node within Solarwind NPM however it kept on saying

"The node (target IP/ hostname) does not respond with the community string '(the snmp string I setup' "

it does not work on 4 out of 20 machines we have configured, why is the result different from the ones that works ?

No. This is the correct setting.

You should run a wireshark trace on both the Orion box and the monitored server while you add the node to see if:

1) the SNMP packets leave the Orion box.

2) They reach the monitored server.

3) The monitored server replies to these requests

4) The responses reach the Orion box.

the following capture filter should display only SNMP packets: udp port 161 and host xxx.yyy.www.sss

If they're windows boxes, make sure they are configured to allow your NPM box to query them. That caught me a few times. I've reset them all to allow SNMP queries from all systems.
