Interface shows as UNKNOWN rather than DOWN on the map. How do I fix this?

Here is the situation....

I created a map with ONLY the serial interface of each of our routers.  I have over 1000 routers I need on this map and don't want to poll every single interface the router has on it, otherwise I will end up with 20,000 interfaces.

When all the interfaces are UP, the map shows GREEN.  This is working as expected.

When a serial interface goes DOWN, the map shows GREY (not RED).

How do I get the status to go RED and into a DOWN state rather than UNKNOWN?  Do I really have to put the actual router node on the map and have every interface under it get polled?  I just want ORION to report the interface as a down if it can't get to it, is this possible?

Hi,

the behavior you described does not seem right. The map is gray only when all objects on it are in unknown state, or when it is empty. If this is not your situation, I suggest contacting our support.
