Monitoring Interfaces as Unplugged

We currently have a large network topology of a little over 600 nodes. Up until now we have not been monitoring interfaces or we have only been monitoring key uplink interfaces. I'd like start monitoring all the interfaces. I'm trying to find a good way to bulk enable the monitoring of all interfaces across all nodes, and then be able to go back and change the down interfaces to unplugged. I haven't been able to find a good way to do this in bulk, and if it comes down to touching 600 nodes and their multiple interfaces, it might not be worth it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is how I would go about doing this.

Before starting assure your licensing is enough to cover all of these elements and that your server can handle the load (SW recommends I think 8 or 9 thousand elements per polling engine)

First get a list of IPs for all the networking gear you want to monitor interfaces on.

Create a network discovery targeting only these nodes.

You would want to temporarily disable any interface down alerting you have prior to importing anything.

When the discovery finishes import all interfaces (regardless of status).

You could then write a SQL query to set the unplugged status on any interface = down.

Re-enable your alerting

Review all the interfaces now set to unplugged to assure no "key interfaces" were changed in error.
