Interfaces Marked as Unplugged and the Event Log

Question

Hello,

So, I really like the unplugged feature, as we have a ton of ports that go up/down that I don't want to be alerted on. However, I noticed that tagging a port as unplugged when down seems to remove the port status changes in the event log.  I would still like to receive port up/down event notifications, just not be alerted on them. Is this possible?

We are running NPM 10.1.3

Instead of a group, you could look at custom properties.  Then it would pattern match on the custom property and should fire for any that match.

Unfortunately, I have already went down that path.  I created a group called critical interfaces, and added several interfaces to that group.  I then tried to create an advanced alert that would only fire for those interfaces.  Unfortunately, the results were not good.  The only way I was able to get this semi-working was to set the type of property to monitor to group member, and alert when a member goes down.  The problem was that the alert would only fire for the first interface that went down, and would never reset when the interface came back up.  Additionally, monitoring the group member for interface up/down did not allow me to pass info such as node IP address to the logs and emails.

The only way I have found to reliably group devices for alerting purposes is by entering a description in the custom fields such as comments, and filtering the alerts based on it.  I guess I could do this, just seems a bit tedious.  I was hoping for a check box or a line in a config file to turn this functionality on. :)

Instead of marking them as unplugged, you could change the status up/down alert(s) to have an exception for those devices.  Seems tedious, but it may be what you are looking for.
