Monitor Running Application

Greetings to the Collective:

    I wanted to ask those of you whom might have a good idea on where I need to start off at.  I’m trying to setup an application monitor template to monitor a set of workstations to ensure they are running a particular application (i.e. Such as Notepad.exe).  After this, I’ll try to setup an alert notification to let me know if and when these applications terminate.

I would create a new template and add a single Process Monitor to it. You can use either SNMP or WMI. The easiest way would be to use the "Find Process, Services, and Performance Counters" wizard within APM. You'll need the appropriate credentials to assign to the template/monitor.

As far as the alerting, there are several ways to do it. Basically you'll need to use an Advance Alert. Select either APM Component or APM Application as the Type of Property to Monitor. You can then specify the triggers you want to use and thresholds to alert on. Hope that helps.
