Ability to UnManage an Application

Hi there,
I'm wondering if there is any way to unmanage an application for a few hours/days similar to how we can unmanage a node?

Often during server rebuilds etc some applications are either not yet installed or configured for many hours/days - I'd like the ability to unmanage a specific application without having to unmanage the entire node since that would ensure we didn't miss anything during the upgrade/replacement. Removing the application and re-adding it isn't really optimal since it requires someone to remember to put back applications...

Is this feature on the roadmap - if not can I suggest it

The best I can say is to look at our history. We release pretty often, usually twice a year. We released v2.5 in February. We will release again in the second half of 2009. Beyond that, I can't be more exact.

Was this released in APM 3 or is it in the 'next' version?

It's in 3.

To unmanage an application:

1. Click APM Settings > Manage Assigned Application Monitors.

2. Select the monitor and then click Unmanage.

3. Set the duration of the unmanaged state, and then click OK.

-or-

1. Click an assigned application monitor in any resource to view its APM Application Details page.

2. Click Unmanage in the Application Details section.

3. Set the duration of the unmanaged state, and then click OK.

Note: Unmanaging a node in Orion NPM automatically unmanages its assigned Orion APM applications for the same duration.

For APM 4 / NPM 10, it'd be nice to extend "Unmanage" to include maintenance windows.

By that, combine devices, interfaces, and application components into a single form that would enable "unmanaged - down for maintenance, upgrade, replacement, etc." for each and every item on the form.

Any alerts, etc. for the affected nodes would either be suppressed or have "undergoing maintenance" addended or otherwise shown.

Basically, there needs to be a way to flag multiple items for maintenance, in an organized fashion.

We're currently upgrading field routers right now, so when the techs show up to swap, we get a "store down" alert that while true, is nothing to worry about. A status of "maintenance" would lessen or remove the possibility of alarms/pages that are not needed.
