Is it possible to put a device or group of devices into a "maintenance" mode instead of unmanaging them? We would like to still get statistics while performing maintenance but we do not want to trigger the alerts.
Thanks!
Chuck
We generally do this by adding a Custom Node/Interface/Volume Property. The alert trigger can then check if this property is empty (default, alerting), or negate the test if the property is filled in (which is useful as you can put in why the device is in maintenance).
Downside is you have to edit all your alerts (not too difficult though for the advantage it gives).
Andy.
Do you modify the custom property for every device that is under maintenance each time you perform maintenance?
Yes, just as part of our maintenance process. You can multi-edit properties if you can write a wildcard search for the node name, which helps, but alternatively (what we do) you could write your own web interface which edits the database directly.
Thank you for your suggestion! I will take this to the group and get their feedback.
Is there anyone else out there dealing with this and if so, how are you doing it?
Can you please update this thread as feature request?

I've moved this thread into NPM section of feature requests.
Add us to the list. When I think about it, there is never really a point where we do not want to collect stats. It's all how we report on the stats that matters.
I agree...we have created a way to put the node into a muted mode thanks to this post here.
However I am working with a web developer to give me a front end to allow my users to schedule these maintenance periods.
The best would be if you could set nodes into a maintenance mode where it would still collect statistics but those statistics would be marked that they were taken during maintenance. afterwards you would be able to report on overall availability or SLA availability!
Someone buy that man a beer...that is an excellent idea and is exactly what I got asked yesterday if we could do and I had to say no.
Thank you Questionario. +1000 for this
