Network Discovery using CDP Neighbors

I looked quickly for a post on this and didn't see anything so I am going to discuss what I think would be a great feature to add. All of the nodes in our database are added manually, we have wanted to use the network discovery feature but have not had good luck with it. The issue is with running the discovery it picks up devices I have already added, since I assume it only looks at its empty network discovery database. I want to have the ability to maintain my current manually entered database but run a CDP network discovery on what is already in the database and return results for items not currently in the database. This seems much easier since the only devices I primarily care about are Cisco devices, and since we have CDP running on all switches this would be a great relationship.

Is there something already in the works for this?

We have tried this several times, but always end up getting stuff on the network that we don't need to monitor. We only care about the Cisco gear, which is why a CDP Neighbor discovery would be very nice.

Hi brownw3311,

If you run Orion's discovery you can pick up what do you want to import. So can't you just select what is missing or you have too many devices that discovery wizard UI doesn't give you enough flexibility?
