In our ever expanding use of Orion, we are about to delve into monitoring our virtual envirnoment with Orion NPM. Any suggestions, tips, pitfalls to avoid from your experience as we roll into this area of our implementation of NPM?
Sure I have a pointer for you. There is an MS hotfix that blocks Orion -> vCenter communications that should be removed on pollers and the vCenter: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2661254
We have the virtualization piece of NPM implemented but I never use it (I prefer vCenter.) I've demo'd Virtualization Manager along with Storage Manager, and I liked its reporting and SAN integration much better.
Haven't seen much value in NPM's virtualization piece that I can't get at-a-glance in vCenter.
