Allow Change the Interface Index

Hello, sometimes we need to reset a switch or change a switch for other with more capacity(same kind), in that cases we need to create a new node because all the interfaces in that node change the Interface Index and we can't update in the NPM the new index, the problem is that we lost the graphics history and we need to have repeated the same node, the new one active and the older disabled.

We need something to be able to change the Interface Index and continue with the same node.

I think i am not the only that i have this problem.

In the event of a device reload, not sure if you are using Cisco gear, but you could set Interface Index (ifIndex) Persistence on the device iteself - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a0080134eec.shtml

I am using Extreme switches, and I dont think that this switches have this parameter, in case of change the phisical switch this parameter is not helping us, Do you know if you are thinking in make a develop for fix this problem?

Brandon, do you have a plan to develop something to fix this kind of problems, las weekend we needed to change 3 switches and we lost all the history, and have a lot of garbage.

It's possible, albeit a pain, but possible to unmanage the "old" switch and rename it to keep the historical data... and when you add the "new" switch, it will collect as designed. That way if you needed to refer back to the "old" switch, you could.

Again, I realize this is not optimal, just thought I'd chime in.

So the primary use case you are looking for is replace an existing switch with a new switch and want to retain the interface history, is that accurate?

Just an FYI, all of our closets have a Cisco 3750 stack with IOS version 12.2 (46) SE and the snmp ifmib ifindex persist is no longer supported.
