As of version 1.5 can you import subnets into IPAM like you can the free IP tool?
I am waiting on this functionality to purchase IPAM. I have over 1200 subnets all over the workd I cannot add them all manually.

We can import subnets en masse. Import them with the free tool, verify the imported subnets are as you'd expect, then import the free tool database using a utility we ship with IPAM.

Is it just me or is that a hoakey way of doing that? Should the tool you pay for not be able to skip the middle man?

It is a little hoakey. The steps involved are definitely a productivity boost, so the feeling dissipates quickly.
I've provided guidance a few times for this process, and each time I mentally bring up the R&D time spent on things the community ranks higher. I do spent time after hours helping the product along, but always respect that ranked list.
Give the process a try, follow up with your experience. Brandon, our PM, weighs in all this stuff on the forum to keep that list up to date.
From a PM stand point, as ya'll have said, this is hokey and I have this up there on my usability issues list based on feedback from ya'll.
