Location Tab field should be integrate with Registry value

Hi,

Under "node details" view, We have "Location" Tab,

I am using the WMI method to poll the information of node and i have update the location value under registry, but the value is not being appeared in console.

However the same value is being appear in SNMP polled node.

Can we do some change on the node details page and add the registry location, So registry updated value could be display automatic in Location Tab under the node details page.

Yes, syslocation under registry

The value that Solarwinds displays for WMI node location is the AD site name. It always has been like that, see this screenshot from my lab, i'm sure you can guess how we set this one up.

There is no option short of database hackery to change these values.

In SAM you could set up a powershell monitor to display the registry value you are interested in, but it would also be a bit tricky to get it to show up on the node details page.

How Location filed is design in Orion, it should be based on registry for all node (snmp, WMI, Agent)

In WMI - it is fetching the details from AD

In SNMP - it is fetching the details of syslocation (SNMP location, )

Can you help to get the trick so we can display the registry location information under node page.

To be honest I don't encourage any of my customers to rely on the location details programmed into the equipment regardless if it comes from SNMP or not, because in most cases it is prone to user error, and wild variety between equipment on spelling etc. It is far easier to simply create a custom property which you then populate based on the information.

New custom property creation will lead a new work for solarwinds admin and will be active work for manual effort. As we know during server build all details has put under server i.e rack.

Post configuration of rack in registry, SolarWinds should auto fetch registry details the location tab.

That's why i would vote this is as a feature. if Orion have not a current feasibility.

Orion should auto provide the details of rack where your physical host is hosted, So we have one more layer of information of physical entity.

You know Datacenter information is very valuable and i believe the Orion should be capable to provide.

The problem is that not all companies will have that detail at the host level, and if it comes from the host for one device it needs to come from the host for ALL devices. With a custom property all the devices regardless of polling method can contain relevant data and it can be mined, extracted and populated a hell of a lot quicker and easier, and with tighter restrictions.

You could if you wanted to take it a step further update a central CMDB and then pull in the DMBD data to populate your custom properties (or the CP's to update the CI information lol).
