To cut a long story short, I am using a 32-bit version of the lite client from solarwinds and I have a 64 install of Oracle. I can confirm this with the following actions:
I have been having some issue with monitoring oracle applications. I have been trying for a while to get these back monitoring, but have been at logger heads.
I will explain the process to get to this.
- Reading about monitoring Oracle services, I had two options: use the solarwinds lite client, or the heavy Oracle client.
- As I realised the Oracle client was a lot more work, I opted for the Lite client.
- Raising a change to install and config lite client on my solarwinds box as instructed as per page - http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/apm/docs/Configuring_and_Integrating_Oracle.pdf
- Ensuring that config was working, I then set about assigning new credentials (as no one decided to write down the old passwords) I was given the user account and password. Assigned them to the relevant oracle instance, tested it and received the following error:
- Oracle returned an error. ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred. So I set about trying to resolve the problem. Which was fine because the technical document gave me a little help.
- I ran applications process monitor and got the following:

Following the advice of the document, it might indicate that I have the 32-bit version of lite client installed and am running 64-bit oracle.
- I logged on to the oracle server and ran tnsping, which revealed 64 bit Oracle.
- Checking the C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\APM\OracleClient and opening the read me it states:
- Mon Mar 3 21:29:56 CST 2008
Client Shared Library 32-bit - 10.2.0.4.0
I have checked my solarwinds portal for a 64 bit version (as my oracle DBA said that they need to match) and all I can see is the 32-bit application on the solarwinds portal.
Does anyone have a link to a 64-bit version. I sent a ticket to solarwinds, but didn't hear anything back.
