Disable components on AppInsight for SQL

The "Log Bytes Flushed/sec" component of an AppInsight for SQL monitor is down on some of the databases on 1 of my SQL 2012 instances. The description for that component specifically says, "Note: This is not available in SQL 2012.", so it shouldn't even be looking for those counters on SQL 2012 instances.

So, I have a couple of questions:

How do I disable that counter component for my SQL 2012 instances?
I see the counter on all databases on all of my servers, but several of them on my 2012 instances are green. Why does the counter work for these databases and not others?

Go to Settings>SAM Settings>Manage Application Monitors. Click on the 'Assigned Application Monitors.' tab, and find the application assignment you need to modify, then edit it. Check the box next to 'Log Bytes Flushed/sec' and click disable. Submit this change and you're done !
No idea. Perhaps some of your instances have newer service packs, and one of these added in the functionality?

If you have SAM 6.2 installed, you CAN disable individual components within an AppInsight monitor! My test rig is still on 6.1.1, and hence i didn't see the options and doubted myself

There you have it, for question 1, if you upgrade to SAM 6,2, you can disable your errant components.

You can disable any AppInsight component by modifying the "IsDisabled" value of the assigned component in the database. Its extremely easy using the database manager if you aren't comfortable making SQL statements. This is not a supported method but it works.

There are several groups of components in each appinsight application template:

1) for few components from each template (typically some services which are not crucial to whole application) it works officially and option to disable them is available on application edit page (some may even get disabled automatically depending on discovery result or result of first application poll)

2) for few others it may work too but it is not allowed

3) for few others it is really important to have them always enabled and attempt to disable them will lead to break appinsight polling or data processing as there are dependencies beween components

4) for many others (typically custom performance counters that are discussed here) attempt to disable will probably not break polling, but will also not have any effect (disable flag will be simply ignored for them)

Groups (2-4) are of course out of support, (2) and (4) are potential candidates to feature request (to extend group of components that can be officialy disabled per user configuration).

The ability to individually-disable every component in the AppInsight for SQL monitor is sorely-missing.

I just voted-up an old improvement request to change this. I'd recommend everyone interested do the same.

This is sad and a bit weird but even now, after 6 years you can't just disable components for Appinsight monitor.
The only way is to edit database.
In 2021!

SAM 2020.2.6 includes the following updates:

Disable dynamic components for AppInsight: If you know about an issue that will cause AppInsight for IIS or AppInsight for SQL application components to fail (for example, high index fragmentation of a SQL database), you can disable dynamic component monitors to reduce false-positive alerts and logs. See AppInsight for IIS and AppInsight for SQL for details.

Yes, I saw this, but false-positives is not an issue in my case.
I'm interested in switching these components off, not muting. I have some AppInsight for SQL components with permanent Unknown status. And these components affects Appinsight app status.
