Need help creating a report on how many email messages are delivered each month

I have created a custom APM component to monitor the number of email messages that are being delivered per second on an Exchange 2007 server. I need help creating a report that will summarize how many messages have been delivered in the last month. I have tried modifying the template from the APM Page File usage - last month report, but the numbers are coming in much too low to be accurate.

Exchange server provides only "mesages/sec" performance counters and I understand that this number is not very precise for your needs. However I found following forum thread, where are some techniques how to get what you need.

Generally you have to look into Message Tracking Logs of Exchange and parse number of messages sent/received from there. In APM you can use "Windows Script Monitor" for this. Write some simple VBscript that will read message log line by line, count messages for required time period and report their number back as Statistic.
