Can we schedule a monitoring component be run twice and compare their result?

Hi all,

I want to run a monitoring component (SQL Server User Experience Monitor) twice.

The result will be a number and I want to alert when the result of second run is different than the first run.

Is there a way to do this from SAM?

I can schedule the monitor to run every 10 minutes but can't think of a way to save and compare the result of two runs.

Also, I just found about the field "Count Statistic as Difference" which is for "Changes the statistic to be the difference in query values between polling cycles.

I think I need something like this. This field and CHECKSUM function from SQL might be helpful here.

I am exploring more and will report here if I find something useful.

I don't remember if there is a built in event for "statistic value has changed", but if there isn't one you could an alert like that with custom SQL, something like (keep in mind that this is off the top of my head, the column and table names will be different)

select componentid, currentStatistic, historicalstatistic

from componentstatistics

join (select historicalstatistic from componentstatistichistory where minutediff(datetime,getdate())>10 and minutediff(datetime,getdate())<21) hist on hist.componentid=componentstatistics.componentid

where currentstatistic != historicalstatistic

This assumes the template runs every 10 minutes like you said, and probably needs some tweaking but thats the idea.

Ah yeah that could work too, set it up where if the difference is not 0 it would trigger.
