Need help with monitoring file age whent he filename is based on date

Hello,

We have an application that write logs files and want an alert if the file hasn't been written to in a few minutes. It looks like the file age monitor will tell us the age of a file, but the logs are stored in a folder based on the date and are named YYYYMMDD.

Anyone have any ideas how to enter that into the File Path of the monitor field to work correctly?

This will likely require assistance from some of our community script gurus. It might be helpful to include some background information such as, are these files on the local APM server or are they on a remote server? If this is a remote server, is it running Windows or Linux/Unix. This should help narrow down the script language required.

The files are on a remote windows 2003 server.

This is just a basic script that is able to run locally. Unfortunately, I'm not at work to test it through Solarwinds, but I did test it on my own computer using a file called C:\20120106\today.log and everything shows up correctly. Also, there is no fancy error handling included, but it should give you the meat and potatoes that you need to get this monitor working.

Keep in mind that depending on the polling cycle and when the new folder is created, you might get errors shortly after midnight unless you modify the script to take that into account. It could be some messy code depending on your needs so using the Unmanage Utility to schedule an unmanage window for this monitor every day at midnight for x minutes might be a better use of your time.
