Trap Rules

Hello I intend to create alert rules on snmp traps I receive from our soma network devices. I am able to view this traps but I have not been able to create alert rules that work. I thought the problem could be that the traps are from a private MIB not contained in solarwinds MIB database?

So I enabled a lab cisco router to send traps to the NMS, I am able to view the traps but still the alert rules do not work.Under conditions what I have set is "SNMPv2-MIB:snmpTrapOID is equal to tcpConnectionClose" Did I miss out any configuration?

I am using Orion Version 8.1.0 and thank you guys in advance.

Could you elaborate on how you have the alert configured to determine if this is a setup issue perhaps? There was a previous issue with the SNMP Trap Rules/Alerts not working that was fixed in Orion 8.5.1 that also needs to be considered.

First try deleting the SNMPv2-MIB portion of the condition and on the the Alert actions tab add 'Color the Trap with this background color (RED)....or how you wish.

In the Rule configuration for the email action, do you have an email address specified for the reply address? How many people are you trying to send the email to? Is the SMTP server added in as the IP Address of that server or the servername?

Also the intent is to monitor private MIBs, Under the conditions I am not sure of how to configure this or do I have to send Solarwinds the MIB files?

Yes you will need to have us compile the MIBs to be placed into our MIB database.

Please submit a ticket here and attach the MIBs with the auto-reply email from Support- These will be compiled and placed into the MIB database in the customer portal.
