exe via vbs?

i know 0 about vbs, and servers pretty much. we setup apm and want to monitor a few processes on some remote servers. there is an exe which will give us additional status. is there a way to set this up in orion apm to execute on the target server as a monitor? or do i need to setup a scheduled event on the server, write to a file and watch the file?

We do have a sample template that shows how to execute an application on the target server:

If that doesn't work for you you could also go the route you described: Populate a file and then use APM to read the file. I posted a sample script yesterday that shows how to read the contents of the file:

thanks josh, so then do you think it is feasible to do this with ping.exe to ping an ip from a remote server? i'd even be ok with hardcoding ip since i only have a few. trying to monitor status between two nodes (one which cannot be pinged from orion).

obviously this script wouldnt work. if you think it can be done i will approach someone here that may be able to work on it.

It is feasible. You will have to parse the output of ping.exe to set the statistic to the response time. That shouldn't be to hard.
