discovering 3rd party applications in Asset inventory on windows machines

We have asset inventory turned on and it lists some applications that are on the machines but I am wondering if it can discover 3rd party applications, like firefox, chrome, word, etc....

Absolutely. Anything listed under Add/Remove programs in Windows should appear in SAM's Asset Inventory.
