Does anyone have an idea on how different they are? We're currently defending Solarwinds that it is more better than What's Up. Haven't yet tried it. Can anyone help me. Thanks.
i can not deny that whats'up has its uses as it si very simple and a small footprint on a server but that is about it. it is inflexible, and low-featured. i have just retired my last whats up installation (i had 3) and they are all in Orion.
One area solarwinds should improve on, is update NPM and pull port and HTTP/S monitring into core NPM, so when you add a node to NPM, you have the options of PING, SNMP, HTTP/HTTPS/MISC Port
Or a selection fo each, then you could really know what a node is doing. D.
If you're interested in WUG, then the appropriate comparison from SolarWinds is ipMonitor, not Orion. WUG and ipMonitor are both targeted at smaller customers without much need for scalability or extensibility and who are more generalist in their needs. Orion is intended for customers focused on the networking side, with scalability needs in the present or in the future.
We do have a matrix comparison here.
