After upgrading NPM from 11.5.3 to 12.0.0 we have a few hosts that the new agent either won't install or the old agent wont remove.
1. Won't install - error reads
2. Won't uninstall previous version
If you can't uninstall the agent, you are having SO issues. I would use the Microsoft tool "Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed" and try to reinstall.
That tool doesn't work on Server 2008. Also, I talked to my wife and she said we aren't having issues.
If you are not having issues why can't you uninstall the agent?
the last part was a joke. I am having problems with the uninstall, just not with MY SO.
That tool worked great for my 2008R2 server, but I have 4 other just 2008 servers that it wont uninstall the agent.
What I am trying to say is that your Operation System is not alright, if you can't uninstall something is wrong there.
I would recommend that you use the registry to do it.
Under Programs and Features, the agent is the product name in my case was SolarWinds Agent 1.6.1647.0
Go to the registry search for the ProductName
When you find it, delete the folder.
That will uninstall the agent.
Man, personally, if you are running your 4 servers on a VM I would rebuild them. Something is not right there, the Microsoft tool works pretty well in all my servers..
Did you check the updated port requirements for agents ?
Seems like the couple of servers that wouldn't let me install on just needed reboots. 1 is a DC and I am still waiting for a maint window to reboot it.
Thank you everyone for your help.
