How to send SMS alerts?

Hi All,

Has anyone in the group setup SMS alerts from Orion earlier?

I've downloaded NotePager but don't have much clue after that on how to do. If anybody could enlighten briefly on that it'll be really helpful.

Hi List,

Please someone answer this time. Its urgent and important for us. I'm sure many of you might have come across this situation.

I've installed NotePager Pro (evaluation) on my Orion box. Now when I test the Internet connection it doesn't work. The setup on my network is Internet access through a proxy. Now I access Internet from Orion box using this proxy but NotePager Pro doesn't seem to take the settings and establish any connection.

Another setting that I have in my Orion box is that the WAN gateway and Internet gateways are different. So I cannot even get through to Internet if I give it complete access thru my firewall as the gateway for the Orion box is a WAN router.

Any one from the list and Solarwinds, pls help me out with this.

This may not be exactly what you're after but it is a different take on the problem. Our ISP provides an email to SMS gateway service to us on a commercial basis, ie we pay per message. All we do is use the Alert Manager's email function to send a properly formatted email to the SMS service and voila we get paged on our phones. Like I said not exactly what you are looking at but the same result with less stuffing around.

Hello there....... I use Notepager successfully on my Orion box to send SMS messages via a POTS line... the advantage of this over an ISP provided service is that it can act as a 'last-man-standing' instance if your LAN or WAN links go down......

Let me know your questions and I will try to answer.... just looking at the post it does not say if you have a standard modem plugged into a COM port linked to a POTS line somewhere???.. this is a critical part of the equation...

hi,

i would suggest using a data cable connected to a gsm cellfone (nokia preferrably). use the gammu program to allow the box to communicate w/ the cellphone. orion feeds your messages to the gammu program, gammu passes it to the celfone, celfone sends out your SMS.

- you have to have a working subscription SIM on the cellphone.

orion--gammu--PC--data cable--cellphone

Your local ISP may be offering mail2sms service.

U need notepager pro to make it work. The eval one won't work because of the splash screen
