Sample snmpd.conf for Solaris 11?

Hello,

I am trying to get some Solaris 11 servers monitored via SNMP in Orion NPM.

The documentation on the Net-SNMP site seems to be old and vague in a lot of places.

Oracle's documentation doesn't match a lot of Solaris 11's default files or their locations.

Anyone have an example Solaris 11 snmpd.conf or snmp.conf file they could show?

The file's name & default location: /etc/net-snmp/snmp/snmp.conf?

Do I need to add the Solaris 11 MIBs (from the server) to the Orion NPM server?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm new to Orion (I like it a lot though),

and a lot of stuff has changed in Solaris 11.

Did you check the startup config in /lib/svc/method/svc-net-snmp to verify the location of the snmpd.conf file?

Try restarting the SNMP daemon using the following command.

# svcadm restart svc:/application/management/net-snmp:default

Solaris 11 & snmpd

I use snmpd on all my systems for monitoring with Solarwinds.

I installed Solaris 11.1 and could not get snmpd to respond on that host.
I did the
# svcadm enable svc:/application/management/net-snmp:default
command to launch it after editing /etc/snmp/conf/snmpd.conf file with no success.

Checking the startup config in /lib/svc/method/svc-net-snmp and it turns out: they moved the silly config file to a totally differetn location.

Very upsetting!!

You need to modify the *correct* new location one (/etc/net-snmp/snmp/snmpd.conf).

Then do a you should be able to do:

# svcadm restart svc:/application/management/net-snmp:default

Although I did the more brutal:

# svcadm disable svc:/application/management/net-snmp:default

# svcadm enable svc:/application/management/net-snmp:default

Runs fine, but I do not think Solarwinds has a good MIB for ZFS and zpool monitoring.

(Also, no matter what I edit the rwcommunity string to, I cannot get "green" [Tests] in Orion. Only with the RO string.)
