Integrating Orion NPM with LanSweeper

Question

I have searched and found a few items talking about integrating LanSweeper with web helpdesk, but I am looking to integrate LanSweeper with NPM. What I envision is when clicking on an object (switch, server, whatever) there would be a tab over on the left similar to the 'asset inventory' tab I see that you guys with SAM.

But instead of having to buy SAM just to get asset inventory, we're looking to try and get some of the inventory data in LanSweeper into Orion. Has anyone done an integration like this? Are there any ways to have custom properties be SQL queries to the lansweeper database? Is that the right approach? Is there other API's or something that we can achieve getting inventory data into Orion from LanSweeper? What we're after is a single pane of glass type experience.

You could use Server Configuration monitor that has asset discovery list price for 500 nodes is about 17K the other option would be Web Help Desk it's not integrated into Orion but it does have an asset feature.

Is there any way to de-couple the asset inventory components from SAM? We can't afford SAM. We have about 500 servers and licensing all of that with SAM would be $50k. We are fine with the monitoring we get with NPM for adding servers as nodes. But we would really want asset inventory information.

The problem you will run into is that if you don't have SAM your database won't contain any of the tables that Orion stores that information in.  It would be possible to build your own integration database and link it to the Orion db and create custom tabs with all kinds of custom SQL resources, but you would basically be entirely on your own to come up with the programmed logic to populate and maintain your db and then write all the queries to display it inside Orion.  This all ultimately ends up feeling a bit like a penny wise, pound foolish project since the opportunity cost of developing and maintaining all that is probably going to be a fair bit higher than the cost of a SAM license, unless you have a lot of free time and nothing better to do with the staff hours.
