How to monitor RPC connections with SNMP

Greetings all, I'm curious if any of you are monitoring RPC connections to any of your Windows Servers using SNMP? If not SNMP, how do you monitor RPC connections?

We are looking to be alerted when the number of RPC connections reaches a certain level. That way we can know there is an issue before it becomes a real issue.

We are using APM 3.0 on Windows Server 2003

you can use the Windows Performance monitor component to read performance counter statistics instead of the WMI monitor.

Thanks for the information Mark. My concern here is if the server has too many RPC connections, then I can't get data using RPC since it will be denied.

Are you thinking that one of the counters will be able to alert me to the number of RPC connections on the server by using RPC?

Hello Andy,
I'm not sure that you can get number of active RPC connections on machine by any method even locally. And if there is no way how to get this number, it can't be monitored.

Do you know how to get this information on target system? If you do, please tell us so we can try to help you to provide it for APM.

Thanks for the reply Jiri, the only way I know how it a netstat -an, to show the number of connections.
