APM incorrectly showing service being down - invalid class error

I have a Windows service (IAS) which runs on 2 seperate servers which I need to monitor (I am using the Windows Service Monitor). On the first server (AP05) I can monitor the service just fine. On the 2nd server (AP11), it shows the service as being down. When I look at the APM page for AP11, the organe 'Info' button tells me an "Unexpected error occurred. Invalid class".

I can tell from the security logs on AP11 that the credentials being passed by APM to check the service are ok.

Both servers are running Windows 2000 Server with SP4 and are domain members. I am at a loss as to explain why one would work and one would not.

Anyone have any ideas?

You ran those commands on the target machine (not the Orion Server)? That usually works. You might using Microsoft's WMI Diagnostics tool. You can find information about it here:

www.microsoft.com/.../wmidiag.mspx

And you can download it from here:

go.microsoft.com/.../

This tool might shed some light on the problem.

Sometimes WMI can get a little confused. Try running this command at the command prompt on the target node (AP11).

winmgmt /resyncperf

On Windows 2003, you may need to run this command instead:

wmiadap /f

Let us know if that helps.
