Websense SAM Setup

I am having a problem setting up SAM to monitor our Wensense appliance. We are running Websense version 7.6.2 and SAM version 5.0.1. I downloaded the Websense template and it is being used. I an getting "Server unavailable using WMI. Unable to connect to "10.46.1.8" for WMI access.". I have tried several other credentials but have not been very successful in my attempts. I am able to monitor the box in NPM using SNMP but we would like to monitor the applications on the system as well.

From what I remember only a portion of WebSense is Windows based, and it's not the main application portion. That is the logger, reporter, and the apache engine for the Web GUI to name a few of the processes The application is a Linux based application and runs in a Linux environment. I would make sure you are trying to assign the monitor to the correct box. I don't manage our Websense, but I do know that ours has a Windows box, but it isn't the actual filtering engine.

If I am correct then your issue is WMI won't work on Linux portion, and this monitor will only tie to the Windows portion of Websense.

This is how it was on 7.5 and we are about to goto 7.7, so I don't know if they have changed the way they built it, but I was never aware of the main engine running on windows.

Now if you are just trying to hit the Windows portion of the box then you should check WMI and RPC services on the server to make sure they are set up and running properly. Also, check application firewalls on the server, or a firewall sitting in front of the server if you have an internal firewall.

I am remote and don't have access to the link but windows comes with a WMI tool you can run locally to make sure WMI is functioning properly.
