Help With Network Analysis

I'm just evaluating the SolarWinds NPM. I'm wanting to get a breakdown  ntwork traffic (ports, etc) from one IP address to another. This is a powerful piece of software and navigating it quite hard at first glance. Can anyone please tell me the steps for analysing network traffic between two IP addresses?  want to see the ports and applications (if possible) which are communicating, and the amount of bandwidth taken to see if there are any bottlenecks.
