IS anyone doing any F5 monitoring using the SAM module in addition to the normal NPM F5 monitoring. I ask this because the F5 BigIP is basically a Linux OS
Monitoring of Network Load Balancers is a function of Network Performance Monitor. Native out-of-the-box monitoring of F5 devices was included as part of the NPM 10.4 release.
I'm not talking about the F5 app monitoring that I know is in NPM, I'm talking about the Linux side of the F5 hardware
Hi Jeff. I will try to help and answer this question without getting into detailed terminology or semantics
I know exactly what you are asking. It is true that F5's are built with a Linux core. However, F5's are designed to work solely as a high performance network appliance which is the same category as a router, switch, or firewall. I don't want to speak on behalf of aLTeReGo but I think this is why he says that only Orion NPM works for F5 devices.
But I admit I'm not sure what you may be able to monitor on an F5 solely with SAM anyways because you cannot install services or applications on an F5. I mean, you cannot install a LAMP server on an F5, correct? If not, there would be no need to monitor it with SAM anyways. Orion NPM is where its at.
Thanks. I understand.
