All my NPM versions (I'm running 12.0 right now) have always discovered one of my Cisco switches as an HP switch:
What causes this? How do I correct NPM so it puts this switch in the Cisco category?
its a Cisco Manufactured Blade switch for use soley inside a HP blade Chassis, see link,End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module for the HP BladeSystem - Cisco
Device vendor and what pollers should be used is based on the SysObjectID. The ID in the Node Details resource is reporting HP device. 1.3.6.1.4.1.9 is Cisco, .11 is HP. Rediscovery picks the vendor information up and refreshes every 30 minutes.
Do you have any other same Cisco model devices reporting HP other than this device?
Nope, only this model has the problem. Have had this for several years with this model of Cisco device. I think we're probably close to retiring it, but it's been confusing to see HP hardware showing up in an all-Cisco network.
Why NPM says its Machine Type is Cisco, while reporting its vendor is HP, is the question.
there are over 600 Cisco Part codes that ALSO have an HP I.D.
its because HP was Cisco's largest Gold Parter reseller in the World right
up until Cisco decided to manufacture UCS and annoy HP so the relationship
fell apart, HP created their part code for approxiamately 600 Part codes
that have dual part codes, 2 x HP ( sometimes 4 ) and 1 x Cisco, that are
all the same thing
