APM reports Failures on Orion Server

Hi, I have a quick question. My APM is telling me that on my Orion Server and 2 additional pollers, I have an application fault with the "SW Web Console - UE"

I cant seem to find what that is or how to resolve the issue. Since searching on this site turned up no results my guess is that this isnt a common problem with the installation.

I am up to date on all my servers, newest NPM & APM, Win2k8-R2.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

A late update but here is what happened. By accident the APM 4.0 poller was installed on additional pollers in this environment. The primary poller was still on 3.5. The security certificate is not compatible between versions. After upgrading all pollers to the same version the dust settled. We apologize for the inconvenience and putting the wrong software in your customer portal.

where did you get "SW Web Console - UE" template? Is it downloaded from Thwack or is it custom made? How is it set? Can you post screenshot with settings here?

Its included with Orion... I thought. After getting my APM installed and working properly, I applied the "Orion Server" template to my 3 Orion servers...

Which specific component is experiencing problems and what is the specific reason the component is claiming for the error? If you go to the component there should be a litle orange box that you can hover over to get the failure details.

I am working with Jason (SW Support) right now and we are trying to diagnose possible problems with my APM install, the website is not allowing me to edit components or templates.

Every other component of the Orion installation is running perfectly.

Orion Website Error

The Orion website is currently unable to display this page. Orion polling and alerting services often continue running, though this page cannot be displayed. Please take the following steps to attempt to alleviate the issue:

Log in to the website again and navigate to another Orion page, allowing you to isolate the error to this page.

Ensure the Orion services are still running.

Check that your SQL Server is still running and accessible.

Please notify SolarWinds of this error. We will address and help you fix the issue.

Your specific error is:

The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Security.SecuritySessionClientSettings`1+ClientSecurityDuplexSessionChannel[System.ServiceModel.Channels.IDuplexSessionChannel], cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state.

Hello,

I recently applied this template and am having trouble with this counter....but the error I get is diffrent. The error I'm getting is this:

Response message formatted incorrectly, receive failed. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.

Not sure how to fix? I've verified the URL and port is correct, the credentials are correct, etc but the counter still fails.

The most common issue customers encounter with the "SW Web Console - UE" is that the port used during installation is different than what's defined in the template. Sometimes Orion is running on port 8989 or something similar and the component monitor is configured to use port 80. Another common reason is when SSL/HTTPS is required by the site. This component monitor type would need to be changed to monitor HTTPS instead of HTTP user experience.

We are using SSL…and changed the port to 443…does it not use 443? Also how do we change it to monitor ssl other than changing the port and http to https?

I forgot to ask…if it is not 443 how can I tell what port orion is using?

The HTTP User Experience Monitor included in the template is not going to work with HTTPS/SSL. You'll need to remove or disable this component monitor in the application template, then add an HTTPS Monitor to the application template. This component monitor is the same as the HTTP monitor you disabled in the step prior except it support SSL/TLS encypted HTTPS websites.
