We use gig interfaces for our 25Mb WAN links. Interface utilization in Orion thinks this is a Gig link, so I need to change this. How do I do this?
You can edit the interface through manage nodes by clicking the check box next to the interface and going to edit properties. From there you can put a check in the custom bandwidth and change the bandwidth to what you need.
You could do what mharvey has suggested or you could add in a bandwidth statement on the interface. Solarwinds will use it to set the interface speed automatically.
Hi, folks - I have a somewhat similar issue: we have a gigabit uplink to our ISP but we only get 100 MB of bandwidth from them - so when S/W reports percent utilization, it's not really reporting how much of the pipe is actually getting filled up - it thinks we have lots more available bandwidth than we really have. The result is that the percent utilization figure looks fine, but we're seeing sluggish internet performance because the maximum available bandwidth is being used.
I'd like to be able to tell NPM that the uplink interface is a 100 MB interface so that it reports the usage based on that information, to align with the reality of what we have available to us. The tricky bit is that I don't want to actually set the interface to 100 MB - I want it to remain at 1 GB - but I'd like Solar Winds to report usage as if it were a 100 MB link. Is there a way to configure it so that it reports the lower bandwidth capability but retains the actual higher capability?
Thanks for any help.
