NET-SNMP?

All of my Sun Solaris 2.10 boxes are being defined as NET-SNMP inside of Solarwinds. Is there a way to get Solarwinds to discover the machines as Sun boxes? I've looked at the snmpd.conf file and I can't see where to set it in NET-SNMP so I was wondering is this set in another location.

Hi,

As per the Net-SNMP documentation, you can set a custom SysObject OID that would return something different than "Net-SNMP" to Orion NPM.

and scroll down to the System Group section.

If Sun has defined a SysObject OID for Solaris servers/workstations, then you could configure it in your snmpd.conf file.

If once found and configured the SysObject OID, it comes back as "Unknown" in Orion instead of "Sun Something", you might want to have a look at this thread: Tell us your "Unknown" devices !

If the box is using net-snmp, that's what NPM is going to see it as.

just incase somebody needs this information.

Set the following variable inside of snmpd.conf

sysobjectid 1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.1.1

and this will set the SysObjectID for Sun OS in Solarwinds via NET-SNMP. You must stop and start your daemon for these changes to take place.
