NPM 12.4 Orion Platform 2018.4

I need to upgrade my NPM from 12.3 to 12.4. Our SW deployment currently runs on a Windows server 2012 R2 machine. However, the release notes for 12.4 state that Orion Platform 2018.4 no longer support Server 2012 or Server 2012 R2. I have 2 questions about this:

1) Is Orion Platform 2018.4 the same as NPM 12.4?

2) What is the minimum supported Windows Server version it will support?

NPM 12.4 brings along with it Orion Platform 2018.4

The minimum version of Windows is 2016

Thanks so much for the fast and accurate response. One more question: Do we need to upgrade our back end SQL database server as well? Or just the SW server the NPM is running on?

Your backend SQL database at a minimum must be on SQL 2014. However, my recommendation to you is to skip SQL 2014 and go straight to SQL 2016 SP1 or above. If you're on SQL 2016 or above, you'll be set up well for the best performing installation and you can easily upgrade NTA and other products that have a dependency on the SQL 2016 database.

There are a LOT of benefits to going to 2016, so if your'e going to go through the infrastructure update you might as well target 2016 or higher for the SQL server. Also, for the fastest way to migrate, I recommend you taking a look at this blog post How to Migrate Orion to a New Server With Zero Downtime
