APM & Performance Conversion Utility

Does anyone have any experience with the Performance Conversion Utility? Supposedly it will convert all existing APM templates, using WMI, to using only PerfMon counters. If so, did it break any of your existing templates or monitors?

My original concern was allowing WMI (RPC) ports through our firewall. From what I've been told, after running this Conversion Utility, we would only need to allow ports 135,137.

Ah! Sorry, I just now understood your line of inquiry.

The utility does not convert the Windows Service Monitor component type. That component still requires WMI.

The utility converts only the WMI Monitor component type, formerly known prior to Orion APM 3.0 as the WMI Performance Counter component type.

The Performance Counter Conversion Utility is in the Additional Components section of your customer portal.

You can find a direct link to it in the New Features section of the Release Notes.

The utility finds WMI Monitor components in each template and attempts to decipher the WQL query. If successful, it creates the equivalent Performance Counter component in the same template.

Delete your original WMI Monitor components after you are sure the new components work just as good as the old ones.

Has anyone actually used it and can confirm it works like it's supposed to? Does it truly replace all WMI monitors seamlessly?
