WMI Templates not even trying

Problem: WMI Templates fail with "Test failed with 'Unknown' Status" message.

What I have tried: Ran through the troubleshooting guides on Why do my SAM WMI Monitors Show Status Unknown? Everything works fine. I can use a variety of WMI browsers to connect to the remote servers, browse the try, recall instances, get data back. I have tried administrator credentials and the SAM credentials. All work fine. When I go to test any template they fail. The one thing that catches my attention is when I capture the network traffic I never see an attempt to connect to the remote systems using DCERPC on any port. When I use the WMI browsers I get the traffic on both systems just fine. The template tests never leave the polling system. I am at a loss as to where to look next any help or logs to examine would be greatly appreciated.

I opened a case with technical support. I had followed the instructions in the read me but did not go back and look after starting services.

Their reply was this:

A common issue we see is that step 4 in the read me is not followed so the Solarwinds.APM.Probes.dll is not unblocked, which causes error like what you are currently seeing.

Go to the directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\APM by default) right-click the file Solarwinds.APM.Probes.dll and select "Properties". On the general tab look at the bottom and see if their is a security warning, if so then click on Unblock and then click OK.

Go back into there after you do that to verify that it stayed unblocked, if not then you will need to reapply the hotfix again but this time unblock the .dll file before moving it over from the hotfix folder.

Restart the services and then when everything is back up let me know if you still get the same error.

I did one thing different. I Shutdown Everything in the service manager prior to modify the .dll as it is owned by a running process. Upon restart the file was blocked again. I shutdown everything again and did the second step above. This time after restarting the services the .dll stayed unblocked and everything is working as expected. Thanks to Adrian Cook for his prompt response. Thanks to Microsoft for protecting us against ourselves!

Does this occur only when trying to monitor a specific server or all servers? Are all the Orion services started? Are you using a commercial or evaluation license? Are you running any Orion Additional Pollers in your environment? Has this ever worked? Lastly, what version of SAM are you running?

So far I have tried several of our servers, not all.

All the Orion services are started.

Commercial Version.

I have only a single polling system.

Yes, It worked in the past.

I installed the latest version of SAM and HotFix 1.

I have not tried the regedits in your post:

as I do not get enough information to see an invalid class error.

Does the "Browse For Component Monitors work " for these hosts when selecting WMI, Windows Performance Counters, Services or Processes? In other words, do these return results or do you receive an error?

Using the SolarWinds WMI Browser I can browser down to the same servers and get values.
