adding more details to email alerts

Hello All,

I have a customer with Solarwinds. they use VMAN, SAM, NPM. they're getting kinda annoyed with the email alerts they're getting, so i've been doing some tuning, but one of their annoyances is the contents of the emails alerts. These email alerts also go to their MSP who don't have remote access to solarwinds so the link is useless. is there a way to add more details to the email alerts? e.g some alerts say CPU or Memory Theshold exceed. Can i add the value it reach that caused the alert?

It sounds like you are trying to build a more detailed E-mail Alert action , correct? You can do this via Admin >Alerts & Reports > Manage Alerts then when on your alert you go in and edit the trigger actions for the e-mail action. The way I built mine was through adding the variables that were relevant to the data the audience needed. You can build this all out in HTML to look however you want. See below. Let me know if this wasn't exactly what you were getting at, we use and edit e-mail actions often and they are really handy once you get them fine-tuned.

Example w/ data removed to give you a general idea of how it would look. You can edit the color and different variables accordingly. When editing your e-mail action you will find all the variables under the message section by clicking the insert variable button.

that sounds like exactly what i'm after - I'll give that a try today and will let you know.

another thing that's been asked is: is it possible to do an alert digest to combine multiple alerts if they occur at the same time? rather than individual emails alerts.

If you don't know SQL, then using the build in variables is another option.

Decide on what you want to see in the email and then just see which variable gives you that info.

For example.

The faulty node IP address is ${N=SwisEntity;M=IP_Address}

then in the email it will show

The faulty node IP address is 20.20.20.20 (whatever the actual IP address is)
