First migration to new servers.

Hi Everyone,

We were approved for new servers and will be migrating them soon. I was wondering is it possible to install the evaluation software on the new server, point it at the database, ensure that everything is working and then deactivate the old servers licenses and activate them on the new server? Once that is complete migrate the databases to the new database server and reconfigure the new app server to point to the new database server or does this all need to be done at once? My team seems to think we need a whole new set of licenses for this move. Just looking for some information to all this. Also would it cause issues having 2 instances of Solarwinds running on the same network?

I was wondering is it possible to install the evaluation software on the new server, point it at the database, ensure that everything is working and then deactivate the old servers licenses and activate them on the new server? So you can use the evaluation software BUT you cannot have both servers pointing to the same DB you can make a backup of your current DB restore it the new DB and point the new NPM to that DB and have both running that way.

Don't forget to move your nodes over to the new servers.

Wish SW would update their docs as the products move along but you might want to check this out especially if you have other modules.

We just completed a migration ourselves.

I had three new servers built. Orion, SQL, NTA Flow.

Backed up the database and moved it over to new SQL.

Installed Eval licensing on new servers.

Pointed to new database SQL

Migrated nodes over

decommissioned old servers

activated new servers.

Not hard to do, just have to follow the steps. Just follow the link above...
