http website url monitoring in APM - does it actually work for anyone reliably?

Do it actually work for anyone? I have around 100 websites to monitor, they fall into 7 categories. One category has 40 websites, and another has say 5 and so on. I created a template for each category. I created an external node in Orion, and assigned all templates to the external node.

What I find, is that he response time stated within Orion is completely wrong. It is stating say 21k ms, when if I go to the website in IE, using the same proxy, it goes straight out no problem.

I am now seeing on the main APM page, the website monitors going into UNKNWOWN. What on earth makes a website monitor go to unknown? I mean it is not like it is loosing SNMP connectivity etc, it is just doing a HTTP request out to the internet. It should be UP or DOWN

Does this actually work for anyone? I have nearly lost complete faith in the website monitoring ability of APM, so I think I will have to move back to web-watchbot, which really depresses me.

Any help would be much appreciated

I was told by support to not setup the external node at all but to just use a node that has access to the website like any other PC or server.

I am using my Orion server to setup my HTTP and HTTPS monitors on and it seems to be working just fine monitoring our hosted sites, but only from our inside network since I cannot simulate what an outside user would experience so if the website is not accessible from the internet I may not know since our firewall redirects through a different interface on the inside.

One thing I have asked about is outside connectivity testing from the outside to a hosted website on our network. I am not sure that APM can do that to simulate someone from the outside connecting to one of our sites hosted at our DC.
