Please help me understand application monitor polling frequencies in relation to other Orion components

I want to make sure I understand correctly that SAM application monitors and alerts work independently from the other SolarWinds components and their respective polling frequencies/intervals.

We're using things like file age monitors, powershell monitors, sql user monitor, windows service monitors, etc. I want to be able to tell my users that if something is set to alert on a monitor set for 60 seconds, that it will actually fire off, and it won't be like 7 minutes, or 12 minutes, etc.

I believe hardware related alerts do depend on the NPM polling frequencies, but I'm hoping that any alerts that depend on application monitors we created will be fairly predictable.
