Perhaps thick, or just missing it...how can I monitor a service that is running on Windows to see if it has stopped?
Most appreciated!
I did a find and created a monitor for the service...at this point, it looks like it is working...thanks to all who helped.
Try these:

the easiest may be the Find Processes, Services, and Performance Counters wizard mentioned in the last link.
Thanks Jason, but it just seems to monitor how much of something is being used...I need to find out if it is up or down...any ideas?
If you use the "Find" wizard select services. Then scan the target node in question. You should be able to select the services you want to monitor. This will tell you if they are up or down.
You may want to try the following link that explains alerts. This may be what you're after:

Or perhaps this:

It seems that if I use the Find function, it indeed does find the service and when I click on the check box to select, it ask for percentages of CPU, memory, etc...I don't see when it will monitor an up or down.
