Cannot communicate with a server

I have recently upgraded to version 9.5 and SP1.

I have a server which is reporting that it is up, because it is pingable. When I went to check the resources of the server, it came back with an error. "Communication Problem. Server is currently down, unreachable, or "String" is not a valid SNMP community string."

I had a problem with a server, and fortunately my DBA caught the problem. I monitor volumes and alert based upon volume conditions. My alert for the volume never alerted me because it could not communicate with the server. This is a big problem.

Is there anyway for NPM to report to me when it looses communication with a server?

In the advanced alert engine, you can alert off of polling details.

Can you provide an example? What I would like to do is create an alert using your suggestion. I tried using the polling details and had no luck. I would like to create an alert that would tell me when a a node has not been polled in more than 12 hours. I only see the option to provide a specific date.

Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks!
