Does anyone happen to have a SAM template available to monitor a Websense v10000 G2 appliance via SNMP v3?
There isn't one currently posted in the Content Exchange, but you could easily enough use the Browse for Component Monitors wizard under SAM Settings to browse for processes to create a template very similar to this one ->
That's a great idea, unfortunately it doesn't appear to work with this appliance. I get to the point under the "Select Components" tab where it shows "Loading Data...", and the spinning wheel just goes in circles. I let it run for over two hours, and nothing ever displayed.
It may be that this devices doesn't support the host resources MIB, or that there are SNMPv3 view restrictions in place for the credentials you are using. Try doing a MIB walk of this device using both SNMPv3 and SNMPv2 and compare the number of lines returned. If SNMPv2 returns more results it's extremely likely an SNMPv3 view restriction is applied. The MIB walk will also provide greater insight into what's monitorable on this device.
This is rather interesting. I went into the appliance and verified that only SNMP v3 is anabled, but there are no view restrictions that I can determine. If I do a MIB walk on the appliance via SNMP v3, it comes back with a lot supported MIBs (MIB2-DAN-MIB-ADMIN, SNMPV2-MIB, IF-MIB, MIRAPOINT-MASTER-MIB, IP-MIB, and IP-FORWARD-MIB), and a lot of information. I'm going to try running the "Browse for Component Monitor" one more time. The MIB Walk for MIB2-DAN-MIB-ADMIN comes back with: Linux websense.domain.com 2.6.18.8-xen #1 SMP Sat Jun 16 08:14:07 CST 2012 i686. Because of this, I am using \Linux - Unix System\Process Monitor -SNMP\Platform = 32-bit. What is odd is that I am never asked what SNMP credentials to use. That is as far as it goes.
