really annoying - Cannot alert on latency, suppress on bandwidth

We have a standard configuration in many of our offices of a router with 2 WAN interfaces. I've entered the router as a node.

But I need to be able to monitor the latency to the Secondary WAN interface (video conferencing), so I created an ICMP only node with that IP address as well. However, I want to suppress my alert if the bandwidth utilization exceeds 90%. Obviously if the WAN link gets filled up, latency is going to increase & I don't want multiple alerts.

I tried to create an Adv Alert on Latency for the SNMP node, but it will not allow me to select any Interface properties to create my Suppression. And if I change the Property to Interface so I can suppress on utilization from the router node, then the Alert never fires because the ICMP node doesn't have an interface.

Is there any way to accomplish this? Am I overlooking something? I DO NOT want a redundant alert about latency every time a WAN link has high utilization.

Enter in custom properties on the WAN interfaces and specify in your alert to not account for those interfaces in your alerts.

thanks for the reply, but I must be missing something.

If I try to alert on latency to a ICMP node, I cannot choose the Interface property at all or it won't alert. How would adding a custom property to the Interface help?

You would dump the ICMP nodes, and go straight up SNMP. With the custom property you can then make a trigger that alerts off the cutom interface property that you made.

I guess I cannot accomplish this then. We do not allow snmp to go unencrypted over the Internet. Only the router LAN interface inside a vpn tunnel can be added with snmp. WAN interfaces must be restriced to icmp.
