AppInsight for SQL

Hi,

I hope someone can help me out. I want to monitor SQL on a node using SAM agent. I follow the instruction on this page (AppInsight for SQL requirements and permissions) but not really sure what to do.

Do I need to setup both SQL account and Windows authentication permissions? Also, what about the domain account with Orion agent? Does that mean I only need to set 'log on as batch job' if I use the agent?

Using the Agent vs. using WMI isn't' any different. It all boils down to permissions. In the AppInsight for SQL template you can define what credentials you use. In the article that you linked you would want to make sure that the credentials have accesss to:

The minimum SQL permissions required to use AppInsight for SQL are as follows:

Must be a member of the db_datareader role on the msdb system database
Must have VIEW SERVER STATE permissions
View any definition
Connect permission to Master database
Execute permission on the Xp_readerrorlog stored procedure
Connect permission to the Msdb database
Must be member of db_datareader role in the MSDB database
Connect permission to all databases

Thanks chad.every. I got it to work by doing these steps.

1. Create an AD account

2. Set the SQL permissions to the AD account with the Windows authentication

3. Set the AD account as the 'log on as a batch job'

However, this only work when the domain firewall on the sql server is off.
