Hello,
I'm not a Server/VM guy but I'm trying to include our small VMServer environment into our NPM for monitoring/reporting.
I've been reading the documentation and forums here and google searches and I'm not sure why I'm seeing what I'm seeing.
We have 5 ESXi 5.5 servers managed by a central vCenter/vSphere server.
Our Microsoft Active directory is configured to allow us to use our AD accounts for logging in and doing things to the vm environments.
Within vSphere, I've cloned the Read-only role to create our Monitoring role. (I've added the browse datastore permission to this role).
At the root of our datacenter tree I've added this Monitoring role and an AD Solarwinds service account as a permission and have it propagate down throughout the datacenter tree. I can see this permission successfully at all levels of the datacenter, the host-servers, etc on down.
On Solarwinds NPM, I've added this AD Solarwinds service account to the VMWare Credentials Library.
When I tested the credentials on the vSphere server it was successful, but it was not successful when I tested it against the other ESXi servers.
I assigned the credential to the vSphere server and it has successfully started polling everything.
I can see the 3 Datacenters and the servers underneath, but it still fails the polling of the actual ESXi servers (except for one).
I've done a quick check of the security profile and some other basic settings on the vmware servers but I can't figure out why the credentials don't work on 4 out of 5 servers.
Any ideas for me?
Cheers,
Dale
