How can I find out if an email alert was sent based on a known Event?

Question

I created a custom alert for a web link monitor that will send an email alert when the conditions are met.  I've verified the alert conditions are being met and even see the Event occur.  Is there a way to find out if an SMTP alert was sent when the Event occurred?
